Structural Carpentry & Timber Framing in Neath & South Wales

The Skeleton of Your Home Built with Precision and Strength

Every building relies on its structural “skeleton” to remain safe, level, and secure. In South Wales, where homes must contend with high winds and varying ground conditions, the quality of your timber framing is paramount.

We specialise in “first-fix” structural carpentry, providing the essential framework for new builds, extensions, and renovations.

From the ground up to the ridge of the roof, our team ensures that every timber is correctly graded, precisely cut, and engineered to support your home for a lifetime.

Precision Framework for Robust Property Development

To ensure your project has the structural integrity it deserves, we have focused our framing expertise into three core areas:

What Can You Expect?

A Step-by-Step Guide to Our Structural Process

Structural work requires absolute accuracy and adherence to safety standards. We have refined our framing process into four critical stages:

We begin by reviewing your architectural drawings and structural engineer’s reports. This ensures we use the correct timber grades (such as C24) and fixings required to meet UK Building Regulations for load-bearing structures.

Using advanced levelling tools and lasers, we mark out the framework with millimetre precision. Every timber is hand-cut or prepared to ensure tight-fitting joints, which are essential for the overall stability of the frame.

Our team carries out the installation, prioritising structural “tie-ins” to existing masonry or steelwork. We use heavy-duty mechanical fixings and temporary bracing to ensure the structure remains perfectly aligned while the rest of the build progresses.

Once the framing is complete, we perform a final walkthrough. We check every joist hanger, truss clip, and wall plate to guarantee the structure is secure and ready for the “second-fix” trades, such as electricians, plumbers, and plasterers.

Expert Advice on Structural Carpentry & Timber Framing

Expert Insight into Your Outdoor Timber Projects

Building the “bones” of a house is a technical process that often raises questions regarding safety and regulations. T

o help you understand the importance of quality framing, we have answered the most frequent questions from our clients in Neath, Port Talbot, and Swansea. Our goal is to ensure your project starts on a solid foundation.

C24 is a higher-grade timber that has been slow-grown to be denser and stronger than C16. We typically use C24 for structural applications like floor joists and roof rafters because it can support heavier loads over longer spans.

Often, yes. We can “sister” new joists alongside existing ones to provide additional strength, or install new bridging and strutting to level out the floor. However, a site inspection is required to check for rot or woodworm first.

We do both. Pre-fabricated trusses are excellent for speed and consistency on standard builds, while hand-cut (traditional) roofs are ideal for bespoke designs, loft conversions, or matching the style of older properties.

No. External walls and certain internal partitions are load-bearing (they hold up the roof or floor above), while others are simply “curtain” walls used to divide rooms. We always check structural plans before removing or altering any timber wall.

We use pressure-treated (tanalised) timber for any areas where moisture might be a factor, such as wall plates or external framing. We also ensure that the correct DPC (Damp Proof Course) is used between timber and masonry.

For any new structural work or significant alterations to an existing roof or floor, a structural engineer’s calculations are usually required to ensure safety and to satisfy Building Control. We can work directly from these calculations.
